Self assessment Case 1 ANS

According to the dog breed and their fast growing nature, growth plate abnormality is most likely diagnosis, look closer into the pictures, you can see the bone at distal lateral side of bilateral forelimb is actually shorter and creating a small bump at the skin, which leads to the diagnosis of ulna growth abnormality, the distal ulna growth plate accouts for almost 100% growth, therefore deformity of the ulna occurs then. Physical exam specially stresses of the ROM of elbow, radiograph is taken to confirm the diagnosis and the congrurency of the elbow joint.

The radiographic diagnosis is the retained cartilageous core of distal ulna physis.

The angle of deformity is less than 25 degree and the dog is still growing, so the treatment is easy! just cut the bone segment that is constraining the Radius bone growth!
